Let’s talk about layering. And no, I do not mean for cold weather. I mean with your jewelry.
There are so many fun ways to dress up an outfit by mix and matching different pieces of jewelry. Let’s be real - how many beautiful necklaces, rings, or bracelets do you own that almost never get worn? We all do it, but why? Before I learned how to layer in ways that I liked, I had jewelry sitting on my dresser for months on end without being touched. Now, finding new combinations is one of my favorite parts of getting dressed!
While you can layer jewelry whichever way you’d like, we know that throwing you out there with no guidelines is a little terrifying. So, here are a few tips and tricks to get the most mileage out of your jewelry that also step up your styles:
1. Mix your metals
Mixing your metals is a fun way to grab attention and create a unique and totally personalized look. We know some of you are saying “absolutely no” - but trust us. If you’re a little hesitant, try matching a pendant necklace with a pair of earrings. Then swap out the pendant or chain for another metal. (Ex: gold earrings, gold chain, silver pendant) It’s a subtle way to mix it up!
If you’re a little more adventurous with mixing metals, try a rose gold chain with an oxidized silver pendant. The combination of the deep oxidized silver with a warm rose gold magically brightens up an outfit while still adding depth to it. Don’t get shy on us - throw on your favorite bracelet and earrings too. Eclectic isn’t bad, it’s personal.
2. Being messy can be chic
Layering long and short thin cable chain necklaces will help that “oh these? I just threw them on out the door” look that we’re all endlessly trying to achieve. Let them fall however they please. They’ll definitely make a statement.
3. Fingers are for stacking rings
Stacking rings might be my personal favorite jewelry to layer. If you’re anything like me, you talk with your hands, and what better way to emphasize your personality during a conversation than by dressing them? When layering with heavier statement rings, try wearing a more simple outfit and little to no other jewelry, letting the focus be on your hands. If you’re layering with more delicate rings, then add some bangles, a fun statement necklace or big earrings!
4. Less is More
Sometimes it’s easy to forget that big jewelry isn’t the only jewelry that can make a statement. Simple, elegant pieces will do the trick if you pair them correctly. A pair of elegant dangle earrings with your hair pulled back and a few thin bangles will do the trick.
5. Edgy but Elegant
There’s something about combining elegant and edgy pieces together that we just love. Some inspiration: Try wearing a timeless and elegant top with layers of simple, dainty jewelry. Then pair it with a leather jacket or pants and some fun combat boots.
We hope these tips and tricks help you take advantage of your preexisting jewelry and step up your style. Tag us in any photos you post layering your jewelry! We'd love to see your approach on it.
